Esoteric Encyclopedia Entry of the Week: Amulet

An amulet is thought to be a magic charm of sorts, worn for the alleged power of protection from danger, negative energies, and injury. The word “amulet”, comes from the Latin amuletum; meaning “an object that protects a person from trouble”. Although seemingly the same thing, amulets differ from talismans, in that, a talisman is believed to bring good luck, but amulets are primarily for protection. From archaelogical evidence, we have found that amulets were very common in the ancient cultures of Biblical times, especially amongst Pagans.

Amulets are usually made from crystals/gems, coins, pendants, and rings. Even words in the form of a magical spell or incantation are used as an “amulet” to repel evil or bad luck.
