An Introduction to ‘Ayahuasca: An Executive’s Enlightenment’ by Michael Sanders

As my introduction to Evolve and Ascend, I’d like to offer you a gift. But first, let me quickly explain how this gift was created.

Throughout late 2012 and early 2013, I was going through some extreme fatigue. My strength was low, my vigor gone, and my libido shot. I slept at least ten hours each night and never felt rested. I was working as the vice president of an advertising agency and the co-founder of a separate start-up in the gaming industry, but I was just going through the motions. The only things I looked forward to were my next workout and falling asleep. I was training athletically ten to fourteen times each week—something I had once found joy in, but started to border on addiction. I enjoyed seeing friends, but it required enormous effort. With my zest for living fading by the wayside, I resolved that I was going to put a bullet in my brain if I couldn’t start feeling like myself again within two years.

Fortunately, I found a naturopath who turned me onto meditation and the yin energy. He encouraged me to play more—to rediscover the reason I had become so interested in movement and athletics in the first place—instead of being so regimented. We also worked on recalibrating my thought patterns and modifying my diet a little. Within a few months of adjusting my lifestyle, I felt great, and come August of 2013, it was time for me to venture to my first Burning Man.

Now, I could write forever about Burning Man, but that’s not what this particular gift is about. This article and gift are about what happened after Burning Man.

“Mike, what are you doing for New Year’s Eve?” my best friend Sid asked me.

“Nothing planned yet, brother,” I told him.

“Ok, well, I want to do something different. I don’t want to go to a house party and drink. I want to explore.”

“What do you have in mind?”

“My friend Dan has been living in and taking people on expeditions throughout South America for the past few years and I’ve been meaning to get down there. Recently, he’s been taking people to discover this plant medicine called Ayahuasca. Have you heard of it?” Sid asked.

“Oh man, yes! Yes! I’ve been listening to podcasts about it. I’m in, man. I’m in!”

And with that, we scheduled a trip down to the Amazon jungle. In case you’re unfamiliar with Ayahuasca, it’s a sacred and psychedelic brew that Amazonians have been using for millennia for divinatory and healing purposes, treating a range of conditions from depression to cancer. Ayahuasca is typically consumed in ceremonial settings, and a lot of Westerners refer to it as “thirty years worth of psychotherapy in a cup.” The medicine is lovingly referred to as “Mother Ayahuasca”, and is said to have an intelligent, female spirit. A specific diet avoiding salt, spices, red meat, pork, alcohol, drugs, sex and orgasm should be practiced for a week or two leading up to ceremony. While I was skeptical of a plant having a female spirit, and of the need to modify my diet, I remained open-minded enough to respect the folklore and practice the customs. And wow, am I happy I did.

After trekking through the jungle for six days, our group partook in three Ayahuasca ceremonies over the course of four days. The experiences with the medicine shattered the paradigm of reality in which I formerly operated and opened me to new ways of thinking about life and the universe. I travelled to different dimensions, telepathically communicated with benevolent beings, connected with my Higher Self, and for the first time, considered myself a spiritual person. My trip to the jungle radically improved my relationship with life, and fuelled the creation of the gift that I’m now sharing with you…

For a few days, you can get the electronic version for free by clicking here. The print version is available on Amazon as well.

I intend for this book to help and inspire a lot of people—including you—and the early feedback has been both beautiful and humbling. 55 people on Amazon have reviewed Ayahuasca: An Executive’s Enlightenmentalready, with each person giving the story five stars. I hope you enjoy it as much or more as everyone else has thus far.
