Helpful Hints for Navigating October’s INTENSE Astrology

Today, Tuesday, October 13th, Mercury went into Retrograde. The dreaded astrological time-period where the signing of contracts, making of major life decisions, and overall communication flow finds itself in a space of static, stagnation and tumult.

Mercury Rx lasts until November 3rd, when it stations direct, but the next few weeks may have their fair share of chaos.

Beyond the Mercury Rx, on October 16th, we will be experiencing the New Moon in Libra, and a Full Moon in Scorpio on October 31st.

So, here’s how to buckle up, and surf through the cosmic waves.


Connect to a daily meditation practice, so that you can remain centered and calm in the face of potential adversity.

According to The Mayo Clinic, meditation is proven to be a simple and effective way to reduce stress. Benefits of meditation include:

Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations.

Building skills to manage your stress.

Increasing self-awareness.

Focusing on the present.

Reducing negative emotions.

Increasing imagination and creativity.

Increasing patience and tolerance.

YouTube has a plethora of free resources, and meditation apps abound on your mobile device, but a particular guided journey that may be helpful at this time is the meditation below, which is a journey into the heart space.

Quadruple check before sending texts, or emails. Take a pause before reacting/vocalizing if you’re feeling triggered.

Quarantine, and 2020 at large, has been a time of heightened emotions and feelings. Those heightened emotions or feelings may be even louder in the coming weeks. If you’re feeling triggered, take a few moments to breathe through your initial reactions and release before responding from a space of anger, or emotion. Mindfulness is your best friend right now!

Tend to your old projects, but don’t start anything new.

Now is a good time to finish things you previously started, but put to the side. However, it’s not ideal to start something new. What begins in chaos, ends in chaos, but what was began in order may find harmony in completion during this time.


Mercury is the god/archetype of communication, so when he is in Retrograde, things can get kind of wonky. Because of this, and the chaotic nature of the time we are in, starting a new business or signing a contract is not the best. Protect your energy, and if possible, wait it out.


In this time of pause, and reflection, getting clear on what you DO want, instead of what you DON’T want, can be helpful through the process of journaling. Since we are going to try our best to wait out this cosmic chaos, but the time the energy settles, the clarity found in getting clear and WRITING IT OUT may be a really helpful practice!

Self-care, self-care, self-care

Be gentle with yourself right now. It’s been an hellacious year, and (especially as sensitives) it’s hard not to feel the density of the time – Retrograde or not. Self-care is essential to traverse the path ahead. Take a bath with Epsom Salt, or create a Sweet and Bitter bath, give yourself a facial, do a hair mask, curl up in your favorite blanket, watch some Disney movies!

BE GENTLE! This too shall pass.
