Netflix Announces Prequel Series to Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal

“When single shines the triple sun/What was sundered and undone/Shall be whole, the two made one/By gelfling hand or else by none.” – The Dark Crystal

Jim Henson’s 1982 classic, The Dark Crystal, is one of those nostalgia evoking films that many 80’s/90’s kids have a special place in their heart for. Like Labyrinth, it is riddled with Henson’s consciousness expanding visuals, occult proclivities, and esoteric symbolism. Luckily for those who love the film, according to a news report on Nerdist, The Dark Crystal is getting a show on Netflix in the way of a 10-part series (prequel) called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

The prequel will be set many years before the events of The Dark Crystal, so Jen and Kira, may not be making an appearance – however we may anticipate seeing Emperor Skeksis (who dies in the original film), and other familiar characters like Augra, the shrewd, yet lovable guardian of the crystal shard.

In a world filled with CGI, we are delighted to hear that The Henson Creature Shop and Brian Froud will be creating new characters for the show, so it retains its original nostalgic charm.
